Which would you choose?
The luxury of the Executive King Suite of the Royal Plaza, or a room at Port Orleans (or any moderate resort), for a honeymoon. They will roughly work out the same price. We dont really want to move mid way through otherwise we would%26#39;ve went 7 nights in each.
Port Orleans reviews seem to be great-really romantic, but the rooms seem so basic compared to what we would get for the same money at Royal Plaza - the executive suite, with DTD views, whirlpool bath, 2 rooms. (I know there are the added Disney benefits of staying on-site, but i am not sure if these are still enough to be a deciding factor).
Thanks in advance
Disney Moderate Resort V Royal Plaza Executive King Suite?
I%26#39;d say it all depends on where your emphasis lies.
If you want a really luxurious room with lots of indoor room eminities, you might want to go with the Royal Plaza.
If you%26#39;d rather have a terrific resort with lots of beautiful grounds and resort eminities (pool, activities, etc) and have the Disney on-site benefits, go with Port Orleans. Yes, the rooms there are slightly above average, but the resort is great.
It all depends on your preferrences.
Disney Moderate Resort V Royal Plaza Executive King Suite?
Hello Shell,
That%26#39;s a tough one! The Port Orleans grounds are beautiful and your located a quick boat ride away from Downtown Disney but as you said the rooms are very basic. So, if the rooms are important to you I would go with the Royal Plaza. For another off property selection check out the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, beautiful!
As far as the beautiful resort of POFQ, I was thinking we could take the boat ride from DTD to POFQ, then do the horse %26amp; cart around it then the boat back.
With regard to the facilities - the pool etc, I think during the day we will be getting our moneys worth from Disney and spend most of the day in the parks, whereas for the evening, if we didnt fancy DTD, in the Royal Plaza the rooms seem nice enough to sit in with a glass of wine overlooking Disney. The rooms in POFQ doesnt really seem to have the same appeal.
But then there is the Disney benefits - being able to shop and get everything delivered to the room!
EMH - not sure if we would use these or not. Might be nice on a few days, but we will want to relax a bit too, so most likely will spend the evenings out of the park (apart from watching the fireworks).
The bus transfer is handy - would need to look into other options to the Royal Plaza if we didnt have a car.
Transport - Is the Royal Plaza transport to the parks ok if we are going in the morning and back in the evening? Is it just the midday transport that is unreliable because there is not as much demand for it?
Thanks
A few thoughts for you. The first question I%26#39;d ask is what time of the year are you travelling? If it is not during peak time, getting into the park isn%26#39;t an issue if you stay off the grounds. However, if you are travelling during peak times, be aware that when the parks reach capacity the gates are closed to the public (that means everyone not staying in a Disneyworld Resort). We visited once during Christmas/New Years and met a family from England with 5 children that had stayed in nearby Kissimmee. They could not get into Disneyworld for 4 of their 7 day stay. They were incredibly disappointed. Something to bear in mind.
If your purpose is to see Disneyworld, I assure you you will spend little time in your room. Our visit was 17 days and we still didn%26#39;t see it all. Activities go 24 hours a day and often parades and fireworks displays happen later into the evening (say after 10:00pm). After the parks close, there%26#39;s Pleasure Island and Disneyquest. Consider travel times after these activities are finished.
Personally, the one thing that would decide it for me is transportation. By staying onsite, all modes of transportation are included. Have you looked into the added costs of transportation by staying off the grounds? We were surprised at how quickly those costs would add up. Perhaps another consideration.
And yes, the ability to have your purchases sent back to your room is a wonderful feature. These parks are huge and people come to be there when they open and don%26#39;t leave until the last firework display is over. If you like shopping, imagine carrying bags for 12-14 hours. How about worrying you%26#39;ll lose something on one of the rides? Or leave it somewhere because you%26#39;re just tired of hiking it around? And do not assume because you see something in the park today that it will be there tomorrow. After a few trips, we learned that if you see something you like, it is wise to take it with you. Finding it again may not be possible.
A plush room is great and probably very romantic, but unless you intend to spend some time there enjoying it (and aren%26#39;t too tired to just fall into bed), what difference will the way the room looks make?
IMHO you will find more romance and magic within the Disney grounds than you will in a hotel room you won%26#39;t spend much time in.
