First Timers from Oz-where to stay Key West, Marathon,KeyLa

We will be visiting your shores end of Sept this year.

Our cruise finishes in Miami and we are looking forward to heading to the Florida Key for 4 nights.

As this is our first time here we have no idea which places are best to stay.

HELP!

We (2 adults) would really enjoy an Oceanview spacious room with a relaxing atmosphere

Less than $250 per day

Laundry facilities

In walking distance to places

So far the following has interested us:

Tranquility Bay Resort

Key Large Grande

Coconut Beach Resort

Southernmost Hotel

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Can anyone comment on the above?

The Southernmost Hotel is very nice but more of a motel than a hotel. It is part of a small chain called Southernmost Resorts. Other similar motels nearby are the Best Western Hibiscus and the Blue Marlin. Both would be cheaper than the Southernmost. I have stayed at both and found them to be very satisfactory, however they do not have the facilities of the Southernmost with regard to choice of pool areas and a bar, but both provided limited continental breakfast included in the price. The pool area at the Best Western is small but quite pleasant, whereas the pool at the Blue Marlin is raised up in the middle of the parking lot . I have stayed at the Southernmost on many occasions over the years and would certainly recommend it but I am no longer prepared to pay the price they ask .

Check out The Almond Tree Inn on Truman Ave in KW. Spacious rooms soft beds, nice pool and hot tub. They have a free happy hour from 5 PM - 7 PM. There is a laundry mat across the street from the hotel. the web site is www.almondtreeinn.com

as you%26#39;re travelling half way round the world i would strongly suggest you find a spot in key west. now all the keys are great but with limited time i think you%26#39;ll find kw a really memorable town. as it%26#39;s only about 110 miles from kw to largo you could easily drive it in an afternoon if you wanted to check them out. i prefer old town kw at the other end of town from the southernmost. try the pier house-very popular.

Tranquility Bay is located in Marathon about 1 1/2 hours north of Key West. It looks like a really nice place. I have not stayed there yet. It is a new resort. Laundry facilities are included in your unit. Marathon is a nice place but you will have to drive to get to everything, Key West you can walk to almost everything. Whichever you decide I think you will find it relaxing %26amp; fun.

Thanks for your recommendations.

I seem to be really keen on Ocean Key Resort and 1800 Atlantic.

I know 1800 Atlantic is a little bit out from the main action but that is ok with us. We will need the exercise!

Ocean Key Resort says they will be renovating their ocean view rooms at that time but still have some rooms eg the Junior Suite still available form $329. They do expect some noise from the renos.

Anybody have any good/bad things to say on the 2 places?

If you are willing to go $329.00 for a junior suite at the Ocean Key, you might want to compare this with a harbor view room at the Pier House at approx the same price. Or a Graden View at the Pier House for approx $250.00 / night.
